How a golf practice facility upped their game with new projectors and equipment

  • by

When Peak Performance Golf and Athletics sought to modernize its operations to incorporate new ball-tracking technologies, the golf simulation facility near Toronto decided it needed new projectors to match.

The 16,000-square-foot complex features 12 indoor golf simulators and a dedicated area where visitors can practice their short game. It’s the perfect solution for snowed-in enthusiasts who don’t want to see their skills go stale in the off-season, or anyone who is looking for some high-tech precision pointers year-round.

Maintaining that realistic feel from inside the practice bays requires an immersive picture display that can run 12 to 16 hours every day without degrading over time. With a dozen indoor simulators to look after, Peak Performance also needed a solution that was simple to install, easy to maintain and wouldn’t break the bank.

As the company explored the market, they found that many projectors simply weren’t up to the task. “We constantly struggled with bulb-based projectors, which degraded rapidly after about 1,600 hours of use,” says Peak Performance founder and CEO Kevin King. “We’d see the video quality decrease, causing the players’ experience to decrease as well.”

King ultimately found what he was looking for in LG’s ProBeam lineup. The projectors were specifically designed for professional environments, offering high-definition clarity, strong connectivity, reliability and brightness at a competitive price.

Peak Performance ultimately settled on the LG ProBeam BF50NST model to take the golf simulation experience to the next level.

Its range of wireless and wired connectivity features, coupled with Lens Shift technology and 1.6 times zoom functionality made installation a breeze, King explains. The real selling point, however, was the bright, high-quality picture that could stand the test of time.

The laser projector delivers a picture size of up to 300 inches at a powerful 5,000 ANSI Lumens, and lasts up to 20,000 hours without needing a bulb change. That means that the projectors can be used for 8 hours a day without needing a lamp replacement for seven years. Multiplied by 12 practice bays, that equals a lot of savings on both down time and repair costs.

“The advantage of LG ProBeam technology – from an experience point of view – is that it addresses the crucial need to have great visuals,” King says. “This model provides an excellent, immersive video quality, and our members have commented on the amazing experience.”

Peak Performance is just one of many businesses that are finding new and creative uses for professional-grade projectors. Projectors have come a long way since the overhead models that required users to manually feed individual slides during a meeting. Today many, including the LG ProBeam line-up, utilize wireless technologies like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth that make it easy to share laptop, tablet and smartphone content on a big screen.

While we typically think of projectors in professional environments as being primarily used for office presentations, this versatile piece of technology has a wide range of applications, ranging from retail to education to the world of golf.

Mr. King says that when Peak Performance first opened its doors, it promised an extraordinary golf playing, learning and practice experience. With their latest renovations and modernization efforts – including the installation of the new LG ProBeam BF50NST projectors – he says professionals and amateurs alike can enjoy a highly realistic, immersive and tech-enabled golf experience year-round.

“The LG ProBeam gives us more than 20,000 hours of visuals and we’re experiencing far less fading over time,” King says. “This means the player experience is extraordinary.”
