Hokies end the Lenny Lyles Invitational with three facility records

BLACKSBURG – Freshman Katrin Brzyszkowska set a Norton Heathcare Sports and Learning Center facility record on Saturday at the Lenny Lyles Invitational putting a personal-best distance of 55’2.75″ (16.83m) in the shot put event. Brzyszkowska’s mark ranks first in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

“Excellent performance by Katrin today,” said associate head coach Andrew Dubs. “It has been a whirlwind of a month for her with some small adversity today. I am very proud of how she has been able to stay focused. She is an outstanding competitor, and I look forward to seeing more of her success this season. “

Brzyszkowska started the day in third-place after putting just short of 50’10” (15.5m) on her first attempt. Warming up with each attempt, she climbed her way up on the leaderboard one spot at a time. In round two, she moved into second before taking over the competition in round three breaking the old facility record 52’2″ (15.91m) set one year ago by Rachel Tanczos of Notre Dame. Essence Henderson finished second with a season-best distance of 54’0″ (16.46m).

Tyson Jones placed second in the men’s shot put sending the put 17.98m into the landing area.

Sprints

Sprinter Judson Lincoln IV holds two facility records at Louisville after clocking in first in the men’s 400m dash with a time of 46.67. Kennedy Harrison placed second with a time of 47.15.

Lincoln IV ran anchor in the 4x400m relay running a sub 22 in the first lap to hold onto the Hokies lead, second fastest split of the day. Tech set the facility record time of 3:09.89 controlling the race at each passing of the baton. Kennedy Harrison, Cole Beckand Ali Diaby joined Lincoln IV in the record-breaking race.

Beck also competed in the 200-meter crossing the line second at 21.18.

Jumps

Placed 15th on the NCAA DI top performances list, Cierra Pyles scored a personal-best distance of 42’4″ (12.90m) in the triple jump, placed second on her third attempt.

In the men’s triple, Chauncey Chambers won his third meet of the season jumping 51’7.25″ (15.73m) in the first round. Teammate Caleb Stephens finished fourth with a distance of 48’3.2″ (14.71m).

High Jumper Aidan Clark is tied for 13th in the NCAA clearing a season-best height of 7’0.5″ (2.15m), finishing second.

Pole Vault
Third in the ACC, Harrison Rice finished third in pole vault clearing a season-best height of 17’0″ (5.18m).
