DETROIT — Carter Hart made 30 saves, and the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday
Hart made 12 saves on 13 shots in the third period, including a pad stop on the goal line after a pass by Andrew Copp deflected off the stick of Philadelphia defenseman Ivan Provorov for a one-timer by Lucas Raymond with four seconds remaining.
“The puck deflected over my head and I lost sight of it,” Hart said. “All I saw was Raymond swinging at it and I tried to get in front of it.”
Scott Laughton and Noah Cates scored in the third period for the Flyers (20-20-7), who have won five of their past seven games.
“We know we need to get on a run heading into the All-Star break,” Laughton said. “We didn’t play well against Chicago (a 4-1 loss on Thursday), so we needed to have a better night tonight.”

Raymond scored, and Ville Husso made 23 saves for the Red Wings (19-18-8), who are 1-3-1 in their past five games.
“It was one of those tight games where it was going to come down to the first play or the first mistake. They made the play and we made the mistake,” Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said. “It’s very tough to be completely upset with the game, but we’re obviously upset with the outcome.”
Flyers forward Nicolas Deslauriers kept the game scoreless at 4:50 of the third period, blocking a shot by Michael Rasmussen from the edge of the crease with Hart out of position.
“I didn’t see it, but I guess it was a heck of a kick save,” Hart said. “Everyone on the bench told me I owe him a steak dinner.”
Philadelphia blocked 31 shots in the game. Detroit blocked 13.
“Our defensive game is built around taking away time and space and being willing to block shots,” Flyers coach John Tortorella said. “We got back to doing those things tonight.”
Laughton gave Philadelphia a 1-0 lead at 9:01, receiving a pass from Kevin Hayes as he split the defense before lifting a backhand under the crossbar.
“We were doing everything right, and then Hayes makes a nice play and we kind of just stopped playing,” Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin said. “I didn’t pick up my guy and we [got] caught watching. That’s a backbreaker in a close game.”

Detroit came close to tying it at 11:16, but Hart made a glove save on a one-timer. Joe Veleno from the right face-off circle.
“Hart was huge for us tonight,” Laughton said. “He made a couple great backdoor saves in the third period to give us a chance to win.”
Cates made it 2-0 at 13:23 after a one-timer Travis Konecny intercepted a pass by Dominik Kubalik behind the Red Wings’ net.
Raymond cut it to 2-1 with 43 seconds remaining when he knocked in the rebound of Kubalik’s one-timer.

NOTES: Provorov blocked a game-high eight blocks in 24:07 of ice time, including a slap shot by Rasmussen at 1:36 of the third. Provorov needed to be pushed to the bench by Rasmus Ristolainen after the block, but he did not miss a shift. … Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi did not play due to a lower-body injury and is day to day.
