Former Grafton High star Tyler Dupuis qualified for the 123rd US Amateur Championship after the rising Bryant University senior earned medalist honors by shooting 3 under at the local qualifier at Ledgemont Country Club in Seekonk.
Dupuis will play in the 123rd US Amateur Championship at Cherry Hills Country Cub in Parker, Colorado. The championship runs from Aug. 14-20.
Dupuis shot 70-69-139 in the 36-hole qualifier to top Nick Solimene by one stroke to earn medalist honors.
“It feels great,” Dupuis told Joe McDonald of the Rhode Island Golf Association. “I was thinking I needed to make a couple of birdies, then I saw the scores and thought, ‘I just need to make pars.’ I got kind of lucky. I missed the last four greens, but I chipped it pretty well today to stay in it.”
Dupuis notched an eagle on the 11th hole in his second round. Dupuis recorded five birdies in the first round and three more in the second round and only bogeyed six holds on the day.
“It feels pretty good,” Dupuis said. “I definitely need to clean up a couple of things. I need to clean up the irons, my wedges, but for the most part I kept it under control today. I felt like I lost gas around the eighth hole, so I really had to scrap it around. I definitely need to fix the swing a little bit.”
