Gregory-Portland’s Trey Cates turned in the top Coastal Bend finish after placing 10th overall at the UIL Class 5A state golf tournament on Tuesday at White Wing Golf Course in Georgetown.
Cates shot a two-day score of 147, which included a 71 during Tuesday’s final round.
The Gregory-Portland boys carded a two-day score of 652 to finish 12th overall behind Cates, Hayden Hardwick (157); Broc Talamantez (158); Jordan Milam (192) and Angel Garcia (195).
Class 4A
Kingsville’s Dylon Everett and Calallen’s Marshall Major each had the top finishes in Class 4A at the UIL state golf tournament at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.
Everett and Major tied for 33rd to finish with a two-day score of 158. Everett and Major each shot a 75 on Tuesday for their best round of the tournament.
Class 3A
The Santa Gertrudis Academy boys finished 11th after shooting 724 at Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin.
Reuben Garcia led the Lions with a two-day total of 166, followed by Mike Morales (178); Esai Salinas (186); Cameron Saul (197) and Lazaro Reyna (198).
San Diego’s RJ Valerio finished 38th overall with a two-day score of 166, which included a 75 in the first round.
