Golf news: Australian golfer Cam Percy says Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman will join the LIV Tour

An Aussie golfer has dropped a bombshell by claiming two compatriots including British Open winner Cameron Smith are “gone” and will join the LIV Tour.

Smith dodged questions about the possibility of joining Greg Norman’s Saudi-backed tour after his success at St Andrews, prompting speculation a switch could be in the works.

Percy, a top-10 finisher in the most recent PGA Tour event, said on Tuesday morning that Smith and Leishman were “gone”.

“Unfortunate, yeah, they’re gone,” he told RSN radio.

Percy also said the PGA Tour should have been aware of the threat posed by the LIV Tour

“I had a long conversation with Adam Scott and he was very interesting talking about it, just where it is,” he said.

“He said he met with these guys (LIV) in 2017 (and) they were ready to do all this. So, the tour has known for a long time that this stuff’s in the works.”

The 48-year-old said the LIV Tour’s introduction had created a moral divide in golf.

“The more and more you look into it, some people don’t care, some people have got a conscience and do care,” he said.

“It really comes down to, you know, ‘they just executed 80 people this week, just chopped their heads off’. They’re not the nicest people in the world.

“Do you just look past that and go, ‘oh well, I’m rich.’ I don’t really care’. It’s a tough one, it really is.”
