Golf ball may have been used to shatter window on moving train: NRP

Niagara Regional Police are investigating an incident after a CN train traveling through Grimsby sustained a shattered window, leaving a conductor with minor injuries.

Niagara Regional Police from Grimsby responded to the westbound CN tracks near the Oakes Road North crossing regarding damage to a CN train on Saturday at 7:54 pm

The conductor told the police the train was traveling at about 65 km/h when an unknown object smashed the windshield on the locomotive.

The impact caused the windshield to shatter, resulting in minor injuries to the train’s conductor.

The next day, officers returned to the scene and discovered golf balls in the area of ​​the train tracks. Although it has not been confirmed that a golf ball caused the damage, detectives are appealing to residents in the area of ​​Oakes Road North to review their CCTV footage for any relevant information.

Police said a person of interest was seen at the railway crossing moments before the train windshield was damaged.

The person of interest is described as a white male, 16 to 20 years old, and was wearing a white T-shirt, black shorts and white running shoes. He was seen running from the scene, likely holding a cellphone with the flashlight feature turned on, police said.
