Golden Knights May Target Canadiens Goaltender

The Vegas Golden Knights are in a tough spot now that goaltender Robin Lehner underwent hip surgery, and is expected to miss the entire 2022-2023 season. An option for them is to roll with the current tandem of both Logan Thompson and Laurent Brossoit, which would be more of an experiment than anything. Another option for them would be to target a goalie through either trade, or waivers. One option for them that apparently they have been considering, is Montreal Canadiens Goaltender Jake Allen.

Golden Knights Considering Jake Allen As Replacement

Josh Wegman of The Score looked into five possible solutions for the Golden Knights in goal. Allen’s name popped up and is now part of NHL rumors.

The Canadiens are horrible, and have completely deconstructed their roster starting a full scale rebuild. With that, Allen has been generating a lot of attention considering that the Canadiens *could* run with a tandem of Cayden Primeau and Samuel Montembeault, which wouldn’t be that much of an issue anyway considering that the Canadiens are trying to be bad anyway .

Allen, 32, has a career GAA of 2.60, and a .911 save percentage. With the horrendously bad Canadiens team last season, Allen played 35 games despite injury, and put up a surprising 3.30 GAA and a 0.905 save percentage.

Allen is a solid option as backup for now, and Montreal can get a lot of assets for him.

What This Means

The Habs could get a lot of value for him if they were to trade him, especially considering it’s a contender, and Montreal kind-of sucks.

In Vegas’ case, this is a toss up. They could run with Thompson and Brossoit, but they could get Jake Allen. If they were to get Allen, it would most likely be a package for picks and prospects. It’s doubtful that they’d throw a first round pick in exchange for Allen, but considering Montreal has hit on every trade they’ve gotten from Vegas, this trade could end quite well for them.
