Global Series, Maples Leafs’ issues discussed on ‘NHL @TheRink’ podcast

Living the life in Finland at the 2022 NHL Global Series and dissecting the issues surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs were two of the main topics discussed on this week’s episode of the “NHL @TheRink” podcast.

Co-hosts Dan Rosen and Shawn P. Roarke were joined by NHL.com’s Toronto-based staff writer Mike Zeisberger for a discussion about the Global Series and the Maple Leafs.

Zeisberger and Roarke are in Finland covering the Global Series for NHL.com. The Colorado Avalanche will play the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nokia Arena in Tampere on Friday and Saturday. Each game starts at 2 pm ET and will be broadcast on NHL Network, Sportsnet, Altitude and Bally Sports Ohio.

Zeisberger went into a deep discussion with Roarke and Rosen about the Maple Leafs, who have scored a total of nine goals during a four-game skid (0-2-2). He talked about the Maple Leafs’ core four forwards Austin Matthews, Mitchell Marner, John Tavares and William Nylandersaying the buck should stop with them, that the team invested in them to be the drivers towards the Stanley Cup and they have not come close to delivering.

There was also talk about the performances of coach Sheldon Keefe and general manager Kyle Dubas.

In addition, Rosen and Roarke talked at length about the Global Series including the recent struggles of the Avalanche and Blue Jackets. They also discussed the Arizona Coyotes’ new temporary home arena, reasons why the New Jersey Devils have won six of seven games, issues that the St. Louis Blues are dealing with and more.
