Owensboro Catholic split its doubleheader in the DC Classic on Saturday, while Owensboro and Daviess County grabbed wins to close out the weekend.
Owensboro Catholic vs. Graves County & Marshall County
The Lady Aces soccer team split its doubleheader in the DC Classic on Saturday, defeating Graves County 7-0 before falling to Marshall County 2-1.
Junior Ginny Young led the way for Owensboro Catholic in her first game of the day, scoring a hat trick in a 7-0 win over Graves County. Junior Annie Helwig and senior Maddie Hayden followed suit, rattling off a pair of goals each.
Maddie and Young both added two assists each, while Helwig, sophomore Elly Danner and junior Elizabeth Hayden all got one each. The Lady Aces controlled the game on both sides of the pitch as well, getting a shoutout with the help of junior Abby Payne.
Owensboro Catholic’s offensive prowess did not carry over into game two though, as Marshall County was able to eclipse them 2-1. Junior Mallary Bailey had their lone goal, while Helwig chipped in an assist.
The Lady Aces move to 2-1 on the year following the weekend split, as they will return to action when they host Daviess County at 7 pm on Tuesday.
Daviess County vs. Graves County
The Lady Panthers soccer team continued its hot start to the season on Saturday, dominating Graves County offensively to a 5-0 win.
Senior Brooke Schwartz kept her hot start to the season going, scoring for the third straight game. Her pair of goals led the way for Daviess County, while sophomore Lillian Coombs had a pair as well and freshman Bailey Brown had one.
The Lady Panthers also kept things down defensively, as they shut out Graves County with the help of junior keeper Emily Baughn who made one save on the day.
Securing their third straight win to start the season, Daviess County remains undefeated going into the second week of the 2022 campaign. They’ll have a tough matchup ahead, as they are set to take on the Lady Aces of Owensboro Catholic at 7 pm on Tuesday.
Owensboro vs. Paducah Tilghman
The Lady Devils soccer team hit the road to get their first win of the season, defeating Paducah Tilghman 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Sydney Lovett and freshman Mauwa Larmanrtine were the ones to get it done offensively, while Lovett and junior Addy Riney also chipped in an assist each. Owensboro’s defense was also clicking on all cylinders, with junior keeper Chandler Worth tallying a whopping 15 saves to shut out the Lady Tornados.
The Lady Devils improve to 1-1 with their first win of the season, as they will take a few days off before they take on another district opponent in Apollo on Tuesday at 7 pm.
