Giants climb in latest NFL Power Rankings
Postseason football is here as the Giants are preparing to take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday of Super Wild Card Weekend.
The Giants exceeded the expectations of many members of the media this season, finishing the year 9-7-1 and in the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
Despite finishing the regular season with a 22-16 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, who finished tied with the Kansas City Chiefs for the best record in the NFL at 14-3, the Giants rose in this week’s power rankings.

Top 5: Bills, Chiefs, 49ers, Eagles, Bengals
Analysis: “Brian Daboll has done a great job getting this team into the playoffs. Now comes the real challenge: Making them a threat in the postseason.”

Analysis: “Among the 14 teams in the postseason this year, there probably isn’t a bigger surprise than the New York Giants. Not many expected the Giants to vie for a playoff spot at all in Brian Daboll’s first season as the team’s head coach. No one expected that heading into the Week 18 finale against the Eagles, the Giants would already have a wild-card spot sewn up. There have been a number of reasons for New York’s surprising success, whether it’s the running of Saquon Barkley or the play of Leonard Williams and Julian Love on defense. But the biggest catalyst for New York’s playoff run is the play of quarterback Daniel Jones, who has had by far the best season of his career in the final year of his rookie deal.”

Analysis: “They come off their, ahem, bye week for a rematch with a Minnesota team New York lost to by three points three weeks ago. The Vikes played quite a few of their starters with little to gain in Week 18, so a little rest vs. . rust experiment here?”

Analysis: “Brian Daboll made the easy decision to sit most of his starters in a meaningless Week 18 finale against the Eagles. It puts the Giants in a healthy, rested place for Sunday’s rematch with the Vikings in the Wild Card Round. Minnesota takes a gaudy 13 -4 record into the showdown, but a tightly contested matchup on Christmas Eve (the Vikings beat Big Blue on a last-second, 61-yard field goal) showed how close these teams actually are from a talent standpoint. This season is already a success for a New York team that appeared closer to the No. 1 overall pick than the playoffs in training camp. Knocking off the Vikings would qualify as a major organizational conquest.”
