With the RTX 4090, the RTX 4080, and the RTX 4070 Ti launches out of the way, many are wondering when Nvidia will unveil the RTX 4070. The card has, like other RTX 40 GPUs, been heavily leaked over the past months, giving gives us a fair idea of what to expect in terms of specs and performance. Paul from RedGamingTech has now chimed in with information regarding hardware specifications and performance estimates. The leaker has also managed to get his hands on some legit-looking pictures of the RTX 4070’s packaging.
Starting with the specifications, Paul confirms the RTX 4070 will come with the AD104-250/251 chip. By HKEPC, the only apparent difference between the two GPUs is that the AD104-250 allegedly requires a kicker/comparator circuit which increases the Bill of Materials (BOM) by roughly US$1 vs the AD104-251. Furthermore, the leaker claims the RTX 4070 will have 5,888 CUDA cores, 12 GB of GDDR6X VRAM, and a 192-bit bus. The GPU will allegedly have a TDP of 250 W. These are the exact specs that were shared by kopite7kimi a while back.
On the performance side of things, the leaker reports that the RTX 4070 could perform similarly or slightly better than the RTX 3080 in rasterization workloads. Also, the RT performance of the RTX 4070 is rumored to be marginally better than the RTX 3080.
As mentioned above, the leaker has also shared shots of the RTX 4070 FE’s retail packaging. The packaging is as you would expect from an RTX 40 Founders Edition box. The information on the back suggests that the RTX 4070 will employ 2 8-pin power connectors, unlike the RTX 4070 Ti that carries the divisive 16-pin 12VHPWR power connector.
Furthermore, while we can’t see the complete dimensions of the card, the box suggests that the RTX 4070 will be 112 mm wide and will occupy two slots, making the GPU considerably narrower than the RTX 4080 (137 mm).
The exact release date and price of the RTX 4070 are still under wraps. It is reasonable to expect that the board will cost considerably less than the RTX 4070 Ti, as it is rumored to pack almost 2,000 fewer CUDA cores.
