Garmin bundles nearly 20 changes and improvements for Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S smartwatches with latest round of beta updates

Garmin has rolled out new beta updates to the Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S. Based on the company’s forum posts, the pair seems a way off from receiving new stable updates. Unfortunately, it is unclear when this will be the case. The appearance of two beta builds in quick succession suggests that Garmin is working towards issuing a Release Candidate that it will then distribute as a stable update.

For reference, the Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S are now on Beta version 11.13. However, Garmin bundled more changes in Beta version 11.12, which arrived a few days earlier. Specifically, Beta version 11.12 made the following changes for the Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S from v10.10, the pair’s last stable update:

  • Added the Grade Adjusted Pace data field that displays your average pace adjusted by the steepness of the terrain.
  • Added a morning report when you wake up that features the weather, your sleep summary, HRV status, and more.
  • Added running power data to activities without the need for a running dynamics accessory.
  • Added the backcountry snowboard activity to the list of available activities.
  • Improved the backcountry ski and snowboard activities to automatically detect climbs, descents, and transition time.
  • Added the primary race and race calendar glances so you can train for upcoming events on your Garmin Connect calendar.
  • Improved daily workout suggestions to help you train for events on your Garmin Connect calendar.
  • Added support for Sleep Mode.
  • Added Simplified Device Pairing Experience.
  • Added support for configuring activity alerts in GCM.
  • Added option to delete Strength workouts.
  • Added temperature recording activity setting.
  • Fixed issue where daily active calories total could be incorrect.
  • Fixed issue where Indoor Bike activity could start on wrong data screen.
  • Fixed distance discrepancies in the Reference Point app.

Meanwhile, Beta version 11.13 introduced three fixes for bugs that were present in Beta version 11.12, as well as the ability to customize Do Not Disturb mode settings. According to Garmin, Beta version 11.13 addresses crashes that could occur in the ‘Climb Indoor’ activity and the Race Day glance PacePro Strategy page. The Sleep Mode Battery Saver toggle should now work as expected too. Beta version 11.13 should be available to download now via GCM.
