Four recruits join the storied ‘Birds soccer program

The UBC Thunderbirds are excited to welcome four outstanding recruits, Hannah Bains, Taiya Dennehy, Emily Parkerand Jayda Thompsonto the decorated women’s soccer program for the upcoming season.

The T-Birds hold a record seven U SPORTS National Championship titles and fifteen Canada West championship banners and are looking to build off a championship run last season where they fell in overtime in the U SPORTS semifinal and came up short in penalty kicks in the bronze medal match.

“I’m very encouraged by this year’s recruiting class,” said the UBC head coach Jesse Symons. “I’m expecting to see all of them contribute this year on the field and really help push our team and depth. They are exceptional individuals who will add to the team off the field as well, with their quality character.”

Hannah Bains joins the Thunderbirds as a central midfielder/winger from Surrey, BC who graduated from Meadowridge School and will pursue the Arts while donning the blue and gold.

Markham, Ontario’s Jayda Thompson is a winger/forward who plans to study Computer Science or Political Science at UBC and recently played for the Woodbridge Strikers – alongside another T-Birds recruit.

Taiya Dennehya midfielder from Toronto, Ontario, is also a former member of the Woodbridge Strikers and will study Political Science/Social Sciences at UBC.

Defender Emily Parker joins the Thunderbirds from Dallas, Texas as a Parish Episcopal School graduate and former Solar SC player who hopes to study at the UBC Sauder School of Business.

With their preseason schedule already well underway, the ‘Birds will continue tuning up ahead of their regular season opener on Friday, August 26.th when they travel to Abbotsford to face the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades.
