The Colorado girls golf state championships wrapped up the local high school sports year this week.
A pair of local golfers sent out the spring season on a high note with some low scores.
Windsor sophomore Macy Kleve and Fossil Ridge sophomore Ellie Barry posted top-10 finishes in Class 4A and 5A, respectively, during the two-round, 36-hole state tournaments that ended Wednesday.
Here’s a full overview of Fort Collins-area golfers at the state championships:
Fossil Ridge
Barry finished seventh in the 5A state tournament at Black Bear Golf Club in Parker with a two-day score of 154.
She was one of the most consistent players in the field, shooting 10-over-par with rounds of 80 and 74 that included three birdies and 22 pars.
Valor Christian sophomore Brenna Higgins ultimately won with a two-day score of 1-under-par 142, beating Smoky Hill freshman Sophia Stiwich in a playoff.
It’s a second straight top-20 5A finish for Barry in her first two seasons, and she’ll be a first-team all-state honoree after earning a second-team nod last spring.
Barry was the standout for a SaberCats’ squad that had the ninth-best team score in 5A. Fossil Ridge shot a two-day team score of 526 (+94).
Here are scores for the other Fossil girls golfers:
-
Ava Farrell: +38 (182, 86-96) (T-37th)
-
Cailin Lowdermilk: +50 (194, 92-102) (T-51st)
-
Kirsten Smith: +56 (200, 102-98) (T-60th)
There were no Sabercat seniors at state, so Fossil Ridge will likely return its entire lineup next season.

Windsor
Just like Barry in 5A, Kleve had a strong sophomore season that concluded with a top-10 individual 4A finish.
Kleve fired a two-day score of 157 (+13) to finish tied for sixth after being in contention early during the final round at Thorncreek Golf Course in Thornton.
She shot a 78 in Tuesday’s first round and followed that up with a 79 on Wednesday, making her one of just five 4A players to break 80 in both rounds.
It was a second consecutive standout showing at state for Kleve, who finished 10th last season (with a hole-in-one) as a freshman. She’ll earn back-to-back 4A first-team all-state honors.
Erie junior Logan Hale ran away with the individual title, firing a two-day score of 7-under-par 137 capped by a final-round 66.
Wizards teammate Paige Bretz also had a top-20 finish, tying for 13th place. The senior shot a two-day score of 161 (+17) via rounds of 84 and 77.
Windsor finished seventh in the 4A team standings with a two-day total of 517 (+85).
Here’s how the other Windsor golfers fared:
-
Alexa Strohman: +55 (199, 102-97) (T-71st)
-
Abbie Winterbottom: +70 (214, 105-109) (T-79th)

The sophomore finished 75th with a two-day total of 213 (+69) via rounds of 100 and 113.
