Former UNC basketball guard hits big milestone in NBA career

Former UNC basketball guard Coby White hit a big milestone last week in his NBA career.

The fourth-year guard surpassed the 3,000-point mark in his professional career.

White has averaged 12.7 points per game in his 236 games played over three and a half years of action. In his career, he has scored 20 or more points on 42 occasions with seven of those games being above 30 points. 35 points is his career high.

This year, however, White has struggled with his consistency in a reserve role, averaging just 8.2 points and 1.9 assists in 21.2 minutes a game. He’s shooting 41 percent from the field and 35.8 percent from three, both the lowest since his rookie season.

White was a fixture in the starting lineup for the Bulls until recent additions over the last year sent him to a more reserve role. He was selected No. 7 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft after just one season at UNC. During 35 games in his single season, he averaged 16.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.

With the NBA Trade Deadline upcoming, White’s name has been mentioned again as someone who could be on the move — most recently involved in a potential trade that could send him to the Phoenix Suns for Jae Crowder.

White has just one year left on his contract.

The NBA Trade Deadline is Thursday, Feb. 9.

The Bulls are currently No. 11 in the Eastern Conference at 23-26 overall.
