Former NFL MVP Matt Ryan isn’t retiring but he is joining CBS as an analyst

Former NFL MVP Matt Ryan is joining CBS Sports to be an NFL analyst, he and the network announced on Monday.

“Excited to join the @NFLonCBS family! Looking forward to breaking down the game this season,” Ryan posted from his Twitter account on Monday morning with an important caveat.

“PS – this is not a retirement post,” Ryan wrote in his Twitter post.

While Ryan has not closed the door on his playing career, which spanned 15 seasons, he has agreed to work as a studio and game analyst for CBS.

Ryan will appear on NFL on CBS games, while providing analysis on shows such as The NFL Today, That Other Pregame Show, NFL Monday QB and CBS Sports HQ.

“It is truly an honor to join this exceptional team at CBS Sports,” Ryan said in a statement. “I have been blessed to have incredible teammates throughout my career and I am fortunate that I will continue working here with and learning from the very best in the industry.”

Ryan, who has played 14 of his 15 NFL seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, was named the 2016 NFL MVP, selected to four Pro Bowls and guided the Falcons to six playoff berths, including an NFC Championship and an appearance in Super Bowl 51.

Ryan was the No. 3 pick of the Falcons in the 2008 NFL draft, and holds franchise records in passing yards, touchdowns, completions, attempts and passer rating.

Ryan, who spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts, ranks in the top 10 in NFL history with 62,792 passing yards, 381 touchdowns, 5,551 completions and 8,464 passing attempts.

“As one of the NFL’s marquee quarterbacks for the past 15 years, we’re thrilled to add Matt to our talented roster of NFL analysts,” CBS Sports executive producer and executive vice president of production Harold Bryant said in a statement.

“He has played the game at the highest level, including winning an MVP award and taking his team to the Super Bowl, and will bring a fresh perspective to CBS Sports. We look forward to Matt sharing his knowledge, insight and opinions with our viewers. and bolstering our NFL coverage.”
