Former NBA player Brandon Jennings has a hot take regarding the state of the league, saying that LeBron James and Chris Paul are to blame for hurting the game.
Jennings went on a Twitter rant this week regarding the NBA becoming a players’ league.
He believes young players only care about getting paid and have no love for basketball or their team.
Their “lack of love” is due to getting paid a ton of money outside of the NBA, according to Jennings.
Jennings ended his rant by saying the NBA will start trying to take control back by implementing clauses in contracts to only pay players when they carry out what they signed up for, much like the NFL does.
Brandon Jennings is wrong about the NBA
Jennings is only spewing out an old narrative that guys like James and Paul have worked tirelessly to end.
While Jennings says he understands the money part, and later pulled back on slamming King James and CP3 by saying they earned the right to do what they want, his comments are harmful.
The NBA and its team owners earn billions of dollars in revenue thanks to the players, who for a long time were getting the bare minimum.
James famously said that he would never again play for less than a maximum contract because he wants to lead young players by example.
Jennings, who last played in the NBA during the 2017-18 season, has no right to undersell the passion of basketball’s youth by vilifying money.
