Kevin Durant’s trade request has been a topic of discussion all summer. There was a lot of speculation about which team he would end up on. However, all of that speculation ended when the superstar ultimately decided to stay with the team.
Former big man Scot Pollard has recently criticized Kevin Durant, and told him to “shut up and dribble”. Pollard criticized Kevin Durant for wanting Sean Marks and Steve Nash fired and noted that the superstar just got $190 million from the Nets. Pollard claimed that he was “happy” when he got his six-year contract and added that he was willing to “shut up and dribble” for those six years of his contract. (43:50)
“I don’t know. I heard that he said he wanted to fire the GM and the coach and it’s like you just got a hundred and ninety million or whatever. Just sorry, shut up and dribble, man. I’d be happy when I got my six years. You know. I was like, I will shut up and dribble for all six years. You just tell me where to be, I will be there. You tell me where we’re going, I will be there early. I will do everything you asked me to do, because you’re making me a wealthy person. Well, rich, not wealthy,”
This is not the first time that Scot Pollard has taken issue with Kevin Durant. He has previously called out Kevin Durant for never being able to draft a team to an NBA championship.
“Too many players believe they are ‘the guy.’ I’m not trying to take anything away from KD, I think he’s an incredible player. But I don’t think he’s ever dragged a team to a championship. I’ve always been a firm believer that there’s 5-8, maybe 10 , guys on any given year that are actual trans-generational players that could play in any generation. Everyone else in the NBA besides those guys is a role player. So when you have this many players saying things like ‘I want out’ and ‘ I want a coach fired’ it’s like, listen, understand that without this player on your team, you didn’t win. Understand that without this player on the next team that you’re on — and if you keep getting traded around and you keep playing for different teams, how good are you?”
While most superstars generally have some ability to influence decisions, it is clear that the Brooklyn Nets did not want to fulfill Kevin Durant’s request to fire their current GM and head coach.
Hopefully, we see Kevin Durant show out next season and silence the haters. The Brooklyn Nets definitely have the talent on their team to be a contender, and we’ll see how far they get.
