Former Cardinals star DeAndre Hopkins headed to Tennessee Titans

Former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is set to sign with the Tennessee Titans, according to several reports Sunday.

The five-time Pro Bowler who spent the past three seasons with the Cardinals was a free agent after Arizona released him about two months ago. He’d considered signing with a few teams before choosing the Titans, who will give him a two-year contract that with incentives could be worth as much as $32 million, according to an NFL Media report.

Hopkins, 31, was bound to land somewhere with a multi-year deal with his 10 years of high-level play in the NFL, most of those with the Houston Texans before he was traded to the Cardinals in 2020. After a strong first season ( 2020) in which he tied a career high with 115 receptions, injuries cut short his 2021 season and a six-game suspension without pay for violating the NFL’s Performance Enhancing Drug policy cost him part of 2022.

But Hopkins showed that he could still be a factor upon his return from the suspension.

Still, after the Cardinals could not find a trade partner for the veteran, they decided earlier this offseason that it was time to cut costs and move on from Hopkins, who had two years remaining on his contract with Arizona. In Nashville, Hopkins reunites with Mike Vrabel, who is now the Titans’ head coach after having been a Texans assistant during Hopkins’ Houston years.
