Ghaziabad: Five people, including a woman, have been arrested by Ghaziabad police for allegedly robbing commuters on a bike. In the past month, the accused had robbed two people in the Indirapuram area Police arrested them when they were going to sell stolen phones. Police recovered two mobile phones, Rs 75,000 in cash, one country-made pistol, three knives and one motorcycle from the gang.
According to police, the arrested persons have been identified as Salman, Asif and Seema alias Baji, both from Ghaziabad while Naresh alias Haddi and Moeen Malik alias Monkey belong to Delhi. They used to steal mobile phones and sell them to Seema who runs a mobile phone shop in Ghaziabad’s Tronica City.
Devpal Singh, the SHO of Indirapuram police station told TOI that on August 2, the accused had snatched an iPhone from a woman outside Jaipuria Sunrise society while she was walking on the road. Also, a month ago, they snatched a mobile phone from a youth in Shakti Khand 2.
“In both cases, the accused were booked under IPC Section 392 (robbery). Police scanned the CCTV footage of the crime spots and arrested them on Thursday,” said Singh.
During questioning, the accused told the police that they used to recce the area in search of their targets.
“They usually target those talking on their mobile phones while walking. After snatching phones, they used to sell them at cheap rates to Seema,” added the SHO.
