Final Fantasy 16 boss addresses PC release speculation

Final Fantasy XVI The executive producer has addressed the speculation surrounding a PC version of the game, but he’s failed to make things any clearer.

The latest entry in Square Enix’s JRPG series was announced in 2020, mentioning that it was a timed PS5 exclusive. The most recent trailer, which debuted just last month, echoed that sentiment. Considering how Final Fantasy VII Remake (and even Sony’s first-party games) came to PC after the dust settled on their PlayStation releases, it certainly feels like a PC version is certain.

Addressing the speculation in a premium members Mahjong stream for the MMO Final Fantasy XIVYoshida said (in Japanese, translated by content creator Genki Gamer and corroborated by Silicone): “Nobody said a word about a PC version releasing. Why is it like a PC version is releasing 6 months later? Don’t worry about that, buy a PS5!

“Sorry, I went overboard. We did our best so please look forward to it.”

The Square Enix company seems to want to keep the focus on the PS5 version for the moment and are shying away from discussing other options.

While a PC version seems inevitable, its less likely that 16 comes to Nintendo Switch and/or Xbox Series X|S. Square dabbled in cloud-streamed versions of Kingdom Hearts on Switch to heavy backlash, whilst FFVII prequel Crisis Core came to both platforms, but FFVII Remake did not

Furthermore, the Pixel Remasters of the first six main games (which debuted on PC) are coming to PS4 and Switch, but missing out on Xbox completely.

Final Fantasy XVI releases on PlayStation 5 on June 22. It remains exclusive to that platform until 2024, at least.
