Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane will not play Wednesday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets due to personal matters, according to Oilers TV reporter Tony Brar.
On top of this absence, TSN team insider Ryan Rishaug reports that the Oilers are aware that Kane would miss tonight’s matchup, while some fans have been asking if rumors are true that the forward could also miss Saturday’s action against the Chicago Blackhawks and could only return. after the All-Star Break.
This is indeed an interesting timing for Kane, who missed over a month after suffering a cut wrist on Nov. 8 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Kane returned to the Oilers lineup on Jan. 17 against the Seattle Kraken.
But it’s been revealed that the personal matter is related to his bankruptcy case. Jason Gregor reports that Kane is facing two bankruptcy trials in San Jose and is scheduled to appear in court for seven days over two weeks from Jan. 23 to Feb. 2.
Kane filed for bankruptcy with $26.8 million worth of debt in January 2021.
In 17 games for the Oilers this season, Kane has put up five goals and recorded 13 points. He was greatly missed as his absent physicality and grit left a huge void in Edmonton.
