EP’s disc golf course hosting October tourney | News, Sports, Jobs

EAST PALESTINE — The village’s disc golf course is undergoing some final improvements before its first ever tournament in October.

The course was officially opened to the public this summer and has attracted many players.

The project was overseen by the East Palestine Friends of the Park, village park board and the village and made possible through monies donated by the East Palestine Community Foundation, East Palestine Masonic Lodge, and East Palestine Eagles, which allowed the village to purchase and install the 18-hole disc golf course.

Final improvements include installing concrete “launch pads” at each of the 18 holes.

Village Manager Mark McTrustry said the pads were suggested by those who have used the course.

The 8-by-5-foot pads are being installed by the village and the park board and McTrustry said all of them should be installed by the end of this month.

As of this week’s village council meeting half of the pads were already completed.

McTrustry also said the park board has been working on acquiring sponsorships for the holes to help with costs and that 15 of the 18 sponsors have already submitted their payment. Each sponsor will have a sign placed at the hole they have sponsored.

As for the tournament scheduled for Oct. 1 by the Mahoning Valley Disc Golf Association, McTrustry said all 72 available spots are filled and a waiting list is available for any openings.

“The village is very grateful for all that have dedicated time, energy, and funds to this program,” he said.
