The Oilers tweeted out last Friday that Holloway would be shifting to number 55.

The number has only been worn five times in Oilers history. Drew Bannister wore it in 1997-98, before Igor Ulanov did between 2000 and 2006. Alex Henry donned it in 2003, while Ben Eager wore it between 2012-14 and Mark Letestu between 2016 and 2018.

Holloway was also invited to the NHL Player Association’s rookie showcase taking place on Sept. 6. The event is reserved for the NHL’s top up-and-coming prospects and will join the likes of recent first-round picks Juraj Slafkovsky and Shane Wright.

It marks an opportunity for Upper Deck to capture photos and videos of the rookies in their team gear for trading card material and other promotional materials.

Holloway will be in a hotly contested race for depth roles on the Oilers and may be a perfect fit for the Oilers’ third line alongside Ryan McLeod. Drafted by the Oilers 14th overall in the 2020 draft, he made his NHL debut in the playoffs for the team this year in game four of the Western Conference Finals against the Colorado Avalanche.
