Early season overreactions discussed on ‘NHL @TheRink’ podcast

Artemi Panarin‘s chances of getting 200 points this season and the Toronto Maple Leafs potentially missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs were part of the overreactions from the first week of the regular season that dominated the discussion on the new episode of the “NHL @TheRink” podcast, which was recorded Tuesday.

Co-hosts Dan Rosen and Shawn P. Roarke were joined by NHL.com columnist Nicholas J. Cotsonika for a full episode roundtable discussion in which they all threw out various overreactions.

Rosen questioned why it is assumed that the Maple Leafs will make the playoffs, particularly with their 2-2-0 start, including a 4-2 loss to the Arizona Coyotes on Monday.

Roarke joked that Panarin, who has 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in four games, will get 200 this season for the New York Rangers.

Cotsonika said the Rangers have to look out for the Philadelphia Flyers because they may go undefeated this season after starting with wins against the New Jersey Devils and Vancouver Canucks.

The Flyers play the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; ESPN, SN NOW).

Rosen, Roarke and Cotsonika reigned it back in from their wild overreactions to have lengthy discussions about a variety of topics.

They talked about the rocky start for the Devils, who have started the season with 5-2 losses against the Flyers and Detroit Red Wings, and coach Lindy Ruff’s future.

The Minnesota Wild’s sluggish start defensively (6.67 goals against per game) and the Canucks’ players’ only meeting after losing three straight games despite holding a two-goal lead in each were part of the roundtable.

They also brought up Seattle Kraken rookie center Shane Wright‘s ice time, or lack of it, with Rosen asking why he’s in the NHL if he’s only going to play every other game and average 6:32 of ice time.

The “NHL @TheRink” podcast is free and listeners can subscribe on all podcast platforms. It is also available on NHL.com/podcasts and the NHL app.
