There was a ton of pressure put on the shoulders of 18 year old forward Shane Wright coming into the 2022 National Hockey League Entry Draft and a lot of expectations that he would be the top pick in that year’s draft, but as we all now know things didn’t go the way that many experts had predicted.
Not only would Wright not be selected 1st overall but he would fall all the way to 4th where he would be drafted by the Seattle Kraken. Since then Wright’s career in the NHL has gotten off to a relatively slow start given the amount of hype that was behind him prior to the 2022 draft, but he may have nothing to worry about.
Recently the NHL’s partners over at EA Sports decided to use their simulation engine to make some predictions about Wright’s future in the league, and it produced some extremely interesting results. Not only did it predict that Wright would go on to achieve a great deal of success, but it also predicted that he would do so for many years and would have what could be described as a Hall of Fame level career.
According to the simulation from EA Sports NHL, Wright will play 1341 games in the NHL which will include 505 goals and 831 assists for a career total of 1336 points, nearly a point per game player over his entire career. According to the predictive model, that incredible level of play will come along with several accolades which include a Hart Trophy, a Lady Byng award, and a Stanley Cup Championship as a member of the Seattle Kraken.
That is an incredibly bold prediction for a guy that has just 8 career games in the NHL under his belt, which includes just 1 goal and 1 assist for a total of 2 career points in the NHL.
