Dundalk Golf Notes: Team Raven maintains top spot in Winter League

Mickey Coburn and Andrew Shekelton were the leading scorers in the singles stableford competition which marked the fourth round of the Precision Cables Winter League.

Both shot 38pts over the 14 holes in play, with Niall Morgan on 36pts managing the third best score of the weekend.

Playing off eight, Coburn produced a superb round that included a four-point eagle at the par five 10th and four-point birdies at two other par fives, the seventh and 12th.

He had another three-point birdie at the 13th and three-point pars at the first, third, fourth and eighth as well as two-point pars at the second, fifth and 14th. His 38pts was more than enough to take Division 1, with Ciaran Traynor (4) three points behind him on 35pts.

Playing off 17 Shekelton also had an eagle at the 10th which earned him five points and he added four-point pars at the seventh and 11th as well as three-point pars at the fifth, ninth, 12th, 13th and 14th and a three- point bogey at the fourth.

His 38pts earned him first place in Division 4, two points ahead of Morgan who took second in that category.

John McKeever (10) took Division 2 with 35pts after edging out Austin Carroll (12) on countback while Anthony McCrave (14) was the Division 3 winner with 34pts, two more than the evergreen Michael Stewart (15).

In the Precision Cables Winter League, Coburn’s 38pts ensured Team Robin was the top scoring team in Week 4 with 132pts. But on a weekend of hot scoring, they were unable to make any progress up the table and remained second from the bottom heading into the final two weeks.

Team Falcon, captained by Ray Pepper, jumped into fourth place with Ciaran Corbett their top performer with a credible 33pts.

However, Team Raven maintained their position on top of the table for the fourth consecutive week with four of their team contributing at least 30pts to their cause, while David Brennan was their top scorer with 32pts.

With two rounds to go there is still a lot to play for as only 20pts separates first to fifth place on the table.
