As North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye enters his third season in Chapel Hill, there is a lot of excitement surrounding him as a prospect for the 2024 NFL draft.
Even though that’s a long way away, many are considering that class to be a good one headlined by USC’s Caleb Williams and Maye. The two will battle it out to be the top prospect come next April and it should be a fun season watching them do just that.
But before the 2023 season begins, Maye revealed which quarterback in the NFL he models his game after.
In an interview with Pro Football Focus, Maye told the website that he watches a lot of Joe Burrow:
Maye has already drawn some comparisons to Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert, and he models his game after Burrow.
“I love watching Joe play, just the way he handles himself on and off the field with the swag he’s got.”
Burrow had a spectacular final season at LSU in 2019, helping the Tigers win the national championship before he was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Since then, Burrow has led the Bengals to the AFC Championship Game twice and has a Super Bowl appearance. Drawing those comparisons to guys like Burrow and Justin Herbert are a compliment and if Maye can get even better, he could find success in the NFL just like they have.
