Doncic became the second NBA player to put up over 30 points in the first eight games

Luka Doncic continues to make his mark in the NBA. On Friday the Dallas Mavericks star became only the second player in league history to score more than 30 points in each of the first eight games of the season.

The Slovenian now only trails the legendary Wilt Chamberlainwho had eight games with 30-plus points at the start of the 1959-60 season and who also holds the overall record of 23 consecutive games at the start of the 1962-63 season.

Against the Toronto Raptors, Doncic had 35 points (10-of-15 shooting, 3-of-6 three-pointers, 12-of-14 from the free throw line), eight rebounds, six assists, three rebounds and a block.

Unstoppable Doncic

The point guard, who was picked by NBA general managers in an anonymous poll conducted before the start of the season as the favorite to win this year’s MVP, is averaging 36 points, 8.8 rebounds and 8.6 assists per game.

In their game against the Raptorsthe Mavericks led by 19 points in the third quarter but had to sweat it out to close out the win.

Spencer Dinwiddie (21 points and 7 assists) was Doncic‘s best teammate, with the Mavericks now having won three straight.

For the Raptors, Scottie Barnes added a triple-double (11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists) and OG Anunoby (27 points and 7 rebounds) leading a group of six players above 10 points.

Argentina Facundo Campazzo had no role in Dallas‘ rotation and Spaniard Juancho Hernangomez did not play for the Raptors.
