Donald Trump set to play in LIV Golf Pro-Am at Team Championship in Miami

Former US President Donald Trump will play in the final Pro-Am of the 2022 LIV Golf Invitational Series, just as he did at the Bedminster Invitational in July.

The season-ending Team Championship will be the second LIV Golf event that Trump has hosted this year. The first was held at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster and was won by Henrik Stenson.

Trump, 76, played alongside Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau in the Pro-Am in New Jersey three months ago. DeChambeau was thoroughly impressed with his playing partner’s game.

“He’s actually a really good golfer. He stripes it down the middle of the fairway and has a good iron game and putts it pretty well,” DeChambeau said.

Trump was said to be the most avid golfer of all the Presidents of America. His golf course portfolio spans destinations such as America, Scotland, Ireland, Dubai and Indonesia.

The controversial figure, who held office from 2017 to 2021, has previously heaped praise on the LIV Golf Tour for the publicity it has brought to Saudi Arabia.

“I think LIV has been a great thing for Saudi Arabia, for the image of Saudi Arabia,” said Trump.

“I think it’s going to be an incredible investment from that standpoint, and that’s more valuable than lots of other things because you can’t buy that – even with billions of dollars.

“I do think that the publicity that they’ve gotten, more than anything, has been a great thing for them. I think the publicity they’ve gotten is worth billions of dollars. It’s one of the hottest things to have happened in sports , and sports are a big part of life.

He has previously described the PGA Tour as disloyal and he also encouraged players to leave the Tour and “take the money now.” Players such as DeChambeau, Johnson and Phil Mickelson were reportedly paid nine-figure fees to join the Saudi-backed series.

Trump is set to host more LIV Golf events during the expanded 14-event schedule in 2023. The Blue Monster will likely host the final event in 12 months’ time as it will next week.
