District Girls Soccer

District 10-3A

In a game that needed extra time to decide a winner, Stefania Raffaelli scored with less than two minutes left in overtime to help West Shore defeat Holy Trinity, 1-0, in the district 10-3A semifinals.

To open the game, both teams were playing strong defensively. When one side appeared to be making a run towards the goal, they were met by defenders preventing them from scoring.

At the end of regulation both teams were still scoreless, sending the game into overtime.

With 1:31 left in overtime, West Shore’s Bree Ehmer’s shot at the goal was deflected but Raffaelli was there to put the ball in the back of the net.

West Shore will square off against Edgewood, who defeated Melbourne Central Catholic, in the district championship game on Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. at West Shore Jr./Sr. High School.

District 13-5A

Merritt Island advanced to the district championship with a 5-0 win over Port St. Lucie in the district semifinals.

The Mustangs received contributions from several players in their win. Kaci Underwood led the way with two goals and one assist, while Payton Gibney, Zara Anderson, and Breezy Kovac scored goals as well. Anderson also added two assists.

Bayside won its game against Rockledge, 6-0, to set up a district championship game between the Bears and the Mustangs at Merritt Island High School on Feb. 1 at 7 p.m

District 7-6A

Katie Corley’s three goals helped Melbourne win its district semifinal game over St. Cloud, 6-0.

Taylor Mason scored a goal, Carlee Allen finished with one goal and one assist, Bella Donato added one goal, and Sophia Iorio assisted on three goals for the Bulldogs.

Viera defeated Sebastian River, 5-0, to claim the other spot in the district championship.

For the second year in a row, Melbourne and Viera will meet in the district championship game. The game will be held at Viera High School on Jan. 30 at 6 pm

District Boys Soccer

District 7-6A

Heritage won its game over Melbourne on penalty kicks, while Viera moved on to the district championship after St. Cloud had to forfeit the game.

The Panthers will play Viera for the district championship title on Jan. 30 at 7 pm at Melbourne High School.
