Reed is still eligible to compete in European events pending the result of a high court case in February, and reportedly attempted to say hello to the four-time major winner – who has been a strong opponent to LIV.

According to Spanish outlet TenGolf.com, Reed said hello to McIlroy’s caddy Harry Diamond without issue before attempting to do the same with the World Number One.

The report claims that McIlroy ignored the American’s effort to greet him, ultimately irking Reed.

Reed is said to have reached into his pocket and thrown a golf tee in McIlroy’s direction in disgust at the refusal to acknowledge him.

The pair have had a strong rivalry dating back to their epic head-to-head clash at the 2016 Ryder Cup – widely regarded as the best match in the competition’s history.
