Digital Extremes’ first dev stream of the year for Warframe took place this past week, offering fans an in-depth look at the game’s new update while also providing information on other aspects of the game. Towards the end of the stream, the developers offered a brief update on the status of Warframe on mobile.
Closing out 2022, Digital Extremes launched cross-platform play across PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch. They also initiated a partial Closed Beta to stress test their systems and infrastructure on iOS.
It was confirmed during the stream that they are currently at max capacity for iOS beta users, although they are looking to add more people with another invite wave.
Although the goal is to eventually provide the full Warframe experience on mobile once it launches in the near future, it’s currently limited to some early quests (Vor’s Prize & Once Awake) and starting planets (Earth, Venus and Mercury) as well as exploration of the Plains of Eidolon.
The iOS Closed Beta is also scheduled to run for a couple of more months throughout the Spring with plans to add new content such as additional planets, quests and more.
A follow-up press release offered more insight into the status of the iOS Closed Beta:
Additional development work is being completed on trading, account linking, and other technical challenges related to Cross Platform Save, and iOS Closed Beta Tests have been positive and helpful in creating the best Warframe experience on-the-go. iOS Closed Beta Tests will continue to run for several more months, and Digital Extremes will be unlocking more content along the way.
While cross-platform play was introduced, the next step will be cross-save. Their goal is to work on that for 2023, but they didn’t have much to share on it.
In the near term, Warframe players on console and PC can look forward to the game’s next major update, Citrine’s Last Wish, which is set to arrive in February. Players will travel to Mars to take on Mirror Defense Missions and also get to play as Citrine, the game’s 52nd Warframe. And kicking off on February 1st is Warframe’s annual Valentine’s Theme event, Star Days. Expect new and returning cosmetic items, new glyphs and more.
