MOUNT OLIVE — Tyler Lee hasn’t been at Delbarton very long. His family relocated to Franklin Lakes from Texas before his junior year.
But Lee was excited to end his high school golf season with a team title. He shot a 2-under 70 to help the Green Wave clinch the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference championship on Thursday afternoon.
The foursome – Lee, freshman Grady Gore, junior JM Dziadzio and sophomore Jake Kurtzman – totaled 306 strokes to out-distance the field and claim its only team plaque this spring.
It was six strokes lower than Delbarton had shot on the Blue and White courses at Flanders Valley to place third at the Morris County Tournament three weeks earlier. It was a five stroke improvement for Lee, who was coming off a wrist injury at the MCT.
He also won the NJSIAA individual title in a one-hole playoff.
“I played through (the injury) and did the best I could,” said Lee, who has signed a National Letter of Intent with Cal-Berkeley. “My wrist is feeling better, and I’ve played here a couple of times now, so the course is more familiar. … It’s nice to end it like this.”

Mendham sophomore Liam Brandt was the individual NJAC champion, shooting a 3-under 69 with five birdies. He was most disappointed to have ended his round with back-to-back bogeys on Blue No. 3 and 4.
Morristown Beard senior Justin Benbassat also shot under par, carding a 71. Sophomore Anders Farley finished at even par, helping the Minutemen take third as a team behind Delbarton and Montville.
Mendham credited the success to a round of mini-golf at The Golf Zone in Flanders on the way to the tournament.
“It got us competitive coming in here. We were ready to go,” said Brandt, who had carded a 78 on the same course during the MCT. “I started off hot, then I missed three birdie putts under 10 feet. If you were to tell me I’d shoot 69 coming in here, I’d be happy.”
