Laptops with beautiful OLED displays are usually found in the higher price ranges, but the reputable Taiwanese PC manufacturer Asus fortunately offers some very reasonably equipped machines that are perfectly suitable for many regular buyers who mainly use their notebook for multimedia applications. The Asus VivoBook Pro 14, which is currently on sale at the largest retailer in the United States, is the perfect example for that.
To be more precise, Walmart is currently selling the good-looking Asus VivoBook Pro 14 OLED with the Intel Core i5-11300H quad-core processor and 8GB of soldered dual-channel memory for just US$449 including free shipping. Furthermore, this particular configuration comes with a fairly small 256GB SSD, but the storage can be easily upgraded with a larger M.2 SSD like the 512GB Samsung 980 (from US$49 at Amazon) after purchase. This affordable model variant of the 14-inch OLED laptop usually costs US$529, which means that this deal offers US$70 or roughly 15 percent in potential savings.
We reviewed a quite different version of the Asus VivoBook Pro 14 earlier this year, but prospective buyers might still want to check out our impressions of the chassis and the aforementioned OLED panel with a QHD resolution of 2880 by 1800 pixels. We for example found that the screen can get pretty bright at up to 380 nits, and its decent color-space coverage is also praiseworthy. Last but not least, we enjoyed the quiet cooling system of this laptop, but the poor webcam quality and the outdated port selection left some room for improvement. Still, for US$449, the Asus VivoBook Pro 14 OLED is a reasonable choice for multimedia users who are in the market for a cheap laptop with a very decent display.
