David Vassegh injures himself in viral clip going down slide, Milwaukee Brewers, LA Dodgers

Baseball reporter David Vassegh sent social media wild and left his broadcast hosts in stitches after a midgame moment went wrong.

The Milwaukee Brewers were taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers when Vassegh, after reportedly nagging his colleagues, was sent on assignment to the slide.

The Brewers have a home run slide in the outfield of their stadium, most of the time it’s Brewers mascot Bernie sliding down after a player clubs a home run.

But on Thursday, Vassegh finally got his shot and things didn’t exactly go as he’d planned.

Broadcast hosts Joe Davis and Nomar Garciaparra spoke about how Vassegh had nagged for three days about wanting to head down the slide.

“David Vassegh has been talking for three days about going down the slide here in Milwaukee, I’ve never heard someone so excited to do anything,” Davis said.

“David did it today,” Davis said as he paused before saying “watch” as the footage rolls.

As soon as Vassegh begins to head down the slide he starts shouting “holy crap” over and over before he rockets into the padding.

The cameras then go back to the live action where Davis and Garciaparra struggle to contain themselves as the laughter breaks out before a replay shows Vassegh rolling around in agony.

“First I want to report that he’s ok,” Davis says through laughter before the feed cuts to Vassegh standing at the bottom of the slide with his right wrist bandaged up.

“Hi guys. I do my own stunts, Tom Cruise style. I tried to play it up Shaqtin a Fool style and you’re looking at the fool,” Vassegh says.

The outcome from the incident resulted in Vassegh having two fractures in his right hand/wrist and six fractured ribs.

Despite the nasty outcome, social media had a field day with the hilarious clip as it quickly started trending.

Journalist Shawn Garrett wrote: “This is the greatest moment in sports.”

Broadcast meteorologist Jill Taylor wrote: “Our @RadioRoho brought this story to our attention this morning and I know I shouldn’t laugh but …”

The Athletic’s Trent Rosecrans wrote: “Strike on Muncy …” @Joe_Davis, you’re killing me.”
