Daily NHL Betting Guide – 10/28/22

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Lines site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Boston Bruins (vs. CBJ) -140

The Bruins are off to a dominant start to the season, winning seven of their first eight games. Brad Marchand returned with a bang (2G / 1A) but could sit out in the second half of their back-to-back. Additionally, David Krejci was hurt last night and won’t play tonight. Still, the Bruins are deep enough to deal with these absences, and the red-hot Linus Ullmark will get the start. Meanwhile, Blue Jackets starter Elvis Merzlikins has struggled, posting a 4.06 GAA and .863 SV%. Marchand looked outstanding yesterday and returned way earlier than anticipated, so I wouldn’t be shocked if he ends up playing tonight and boosting the Bruins even further.

Colorado Avalanche (@NJD) -122

The Avalanche haven’t been their typically dominant selves to start the season, going 4-2-1 in their first 7 games while scoring 3.43 goals for (10th) and 3.00 goals against (t-11th) per game. Meanwhile, the Devils are all the rage right now. They’ve won four of their last five and lead the NHL in 5v5 xGF% (64.9). The concern I have with the Devils is that they haven’t played any top-end teams yet. So far, they played the Ducks (31st in xGF%), Flyers (30th), Capitals (29th), Islanders (26th), Red Wings x2 (25th), and Sharks (20th). The market seems to be a little high on a team that hasn’t beaten anyone substantially.
