Daily NHL Betting Guide – 10/22/22

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Lines site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets

Columbus Blue Jackets (@PIT) +159

The model liked the Blue Jackets at +159 before Jake Guentzel was ruled out, so it looks even better now. Columbus has won two straight with big comebacks, so they should come into Saturday with a lot of confidence. Columbus has been very sturdy defensively, ranking in the top-10 in all situations xGA/60, they just need Elvis Merzlikins to play better. Without Guentzel, it should be a little easier for Columbus to slow down the Penguins’ offense.

0.5 Unit Bet – CBJ +159

Philadelphia Flyers (@NSH) +197

Based on the early season metrics, neither one of these teams looks very good. They rank 22nd (PHI) and 23rd (NSH) in All Situations xGF and 26th (NSH) and 27th (PHI) in xGA. Despite neither grading out very well, they looked pretty evenly matched. However, the sportsbooks don’t think so (NSH -222). The model thinks it’s closer to -130, so there’s plenty of value on the Flyers tonight.

1 Unit Bet – PHI +197

Buffalo Sabers (@VAN) +156

These two teams are trending in opposite directions. The Sabers are off to a 3-1-0 start, including back-to-back wins in Edmonton and Calgary to start this road trip. Meanwhile, the Canucks are 0-3-2 and have blown a lead in all five games to start the season. They return home for their home opener on Saturday as -175 favorites. The way they’re both playing, the line doesn’t make a lot of sense, and the model agrees. It has Vancouver at -122, so there’s a lot of value in Buffalo +156.

1 Unit Bet – BUF +156
