Council hears inquiry of mobile park | News, Sports, Jobs

WELCOME – Welcome City Council met Tuesday evening at city hall. There was a public comment at the beginning of the meeting about the extra two hours the police will patrol in Trimont. Police Chief, Trevor Jochim, explained that it is temporary and of the City

Trimont pays Welcome/Sherburn the hourly rate. The charge for residents for police is about 70 cents a day so Welcome and Sherburn residents are not being deprived of police protection or charged unduly. The chief also explained some of the items on the December police report.

Jim Miller, manager of the Welcome Legion, asked the council to get a rotary broom to clean sidewalks in the downtown area. There are 14 residents in the area and not even half clean their sidewalks. He suggested the price could be shared by the city and the

organizations he had contacted that committed about $4,000 so far. When the City employee report to the council was given, the council asked about such a purchase. The City employee will have bids about the purchase at the next meeting. He said he has seen some for $5,000+. The City employee also mentioned that plowing was underway now that the holiday was over.

Water meters in several houses were discussed. Some have had three notices and the water

will be turned off. Some are vacant houses and the meters need to be installed if possible.

The Chief of Police reported that the squad car is progressing and should be done soon. The ordinances to be added to the county computer system are also ongoing.

Kevin Goettl asked the council about the mobile home park and expressed interest in purchasing the park and running it like his properties in Truman and Winnebago. He asked about the water bill and assessments on the property. He will need that tax bill cleaned

up He expressed hopes of cleaning up the property and building a storm shelter. He would have rules and do background checks. He will contact the city clerk for more information.

The next meeting of the Welcome City Council is scheduled for 6 pm on Feb. 7, at Welcome City Hall.
