Coral Glades Boys Basketball. {Toro Hoops}

With the regular basketball season closing, Coral Glades basketball teams honored their seniors while the boys soccer team picked up a win in the playoffs this week.
Boys Basketball
Coming off the team’s first win over Coral Springs High School in 16 years in their last game, Coral Glades held their Senior Night on Thursday.
“I am extremely proud and grateful for these seniors allowing me to coach them because everyone has an option, and they chose me,” said Stephen Whittingham. “They have accomplished so much in one year that most Coral Glades teams have never accomplished.”
Dylan Burrowes led the Jaguars with 17 points and seven rebounds for the team’s fifth straight win. They head into the postseason with a record of 16-9.
Girls Basketball
The only senior recognized from the girls basketball team was Lia Sorrentino. Coral Glades fell in the game but headed into the postseason with four wins. They came against Stranahan, Lake Worth Christian, Pompano Beach, and Coconut Creek High School.
The Jaguars enter the postseason as the sixth seed and will face Cooper City High School on Tuesday, Jan 31. The Cowboys are the third seed and went 7-10 this year but lost their last three games.
Cheerleaders
Coral Glades also recognized their senior cheerleaders, Samaritan Jones, Anya Maliyah Fair, Gabriela Rivera, and Esther Thely. Head Coach Kim Valldeperas, who is in her first year coaching at Coral Glades, said it had been a great experience being able to coach these girls.
Boys Soccer
On Wednesday, Coral Glades and JP Taravella officially kicked off the District Championship in the play-in game.
The Jaguars, who came in as the fourth seed, defeated the Trojans 3-2. Jordvy Alvarez headed home the opening goal on a set piece. Nico Acevedo also scored in his first game back since October, while Diego Vasquez recorded the third goal.

Head Coach Marc Lyon is so proud of the fight from his guys in a year that has had many ups and downs.
“This is a special group of guys that have created a brotherhood within the school,” Lyon said. “I assured them that their hard work won’t go unnoticed and undervalued much longer if they continue to do what they are doing.”
Taravella finishes their season with a record of 5-10-3. This was also the final game for seniors Leos Kennedy, Zach Zub, Chrisley Flerismond, Kenan Malme, Doriian Miller, and Daniel Freay, playing for Head Coach Sergio Mosquera in his first season at JPT.
The Jaguars ended up falling to top-seeded Marjory Stoneman Douglas 3-0 in the District Semifinals on Friday in the final high school game for Jose De La Torre, Simon Utrera, Diego Vasquez, Gabriel Marrero, Felipe Tejada, Daniel Matza, and Bryan Camacho.
Girls Soccer
The girls soccer team advanced in the District Tournament with a 6-0 win over Monarch High School on Friday. The Jaguars had four wins this year in the regular season and earned the fourth seed before becoming the Knights for the second time.
Coral Glades will face Marjory Stoneman Douglas in the District Semifinals on Tuesday, Jan 31, at 6 pm The Eagles won 8-0 in their only meeting this year and have beaten the Jaguars the last three years in the playoffs.
