Colts win another SCAA jamboree; Comets take second in Big 8 contest

The Hillsdale Academy and Jonesville boys golf teams continue to put up impressive results in their most recent league jamborees. On Monday, May 8, the Academy boys golf team headed to Indiana to participate in a SCAA jamboree hosted by Colon. The event was held at Cedar Lake Golf Course. The Jonesville Comet boys golf team heads to the Marshall Golf Club for a Big 8 jamboree hosted by Homer High School.

The Academy boys golf team dominated again, taking home another league jamboree win to add to their conference lead. The Colts won the event with a final score of 172. The next closest team was Colon with a final score of 200.

Five Colts finished in the top 10 individual scoring. Junior Rykert Frisinger took first place with a final score of 38. Sophomore Kahle Welden and senior Conner Welden shared third place with scores of 44. Junior Ridley Fast finished the match tied for fifth with a final score of 46. Eighth grader Lincoln Knirk tied for 10th place, shooting a 48.

Match highlights for Frisinger included a birdie on a par-four hole six. The Colt also had four pars on through nine holes. Kahle Welden had two pars on holes one and four. Conner Welden had a birdie on a par-four hole four. He also had a par on hole six. Ridley Fast had two pars on back-to-back holes. He then parred hole eight. Lincoln Knirk had two pars on back-to-back holes. Grayson Young had a final score of 60.

The Will Carleton Academy team took fourth at the jamboree. The Cougars were led by Will Thielen, who had a final score of 48 and took 10th place. Thielen had a par on hole eight. Tyler Slade had a final score of 51 and had a par on hole four. Benjamin Lutz had a final score of 56. Julian Harman had a final score of 58. David Maier had a final score of 60. Hunter Fitton had a final score of 68.

The Colts will host the John Matthew Krutsch Memorial Invite on Friday, May 12. The event will be held at the Medalist Golf Course in Marshall, Michigan. It will be an 18-hole event. The invitational will start at 9:00 a.m. Fans can keep track of where their golfers will start at through the MHSAA golf app.

The Jonesville Comets added another second-place finish to their league resume, finishing just behind Quincy’s final score of 174 with a 177. Despite the Orioles taking home the team win, the Comets had an individual winner on the day. Junior Zachary Mains finished the jamboree in first place with a final score of 42. He tied with Braylon Estlow from Quincy for the top spot. Quincy Oriole golfers tied for third place. Comet teammates Carter Lucas and Carter Baker tied for fifth with a final score of 44. Brennen Mains tied for ninth place with Logan Mears of Union City.

Mains’ match highlights included a par four on hole three. He also had par on the final three holes of the jamboree. For Baker, a birdie on hole five on a par-three was the main highlight of his match. Lucas had two pars on holes one and two and had a par on hole five. Brennen Mains had pars on holes one and seven. Braden Stiverson had a final score of 52 and Collin Laney had a final score of 53.

Jonesville has three events on their current schedule for this week. Their next event will be a jamboree hosted by Springport on Tuesday, May 9. They then travel to Concord Hills for another jamboree on Thursday, May 11. They then conclude the week with an invitational hosted by Hillsdale Academy on Friday, May 12.
