Coinbase, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has deepened its alliance with one of the most successful German soccer teams, Borussia Dortmund (BVB). In fact, the crypto exchange initiated a partnership with the German soccer club in July 2022 by displaying advertisements on video screens during the club’s home games. It has already assisted in providing crypto education for Dortmund employees across numerous departments.

Now, with new terms, Coinbase will serve as BVB’s Premium Partner. The ads of the crypto exchange in the stadium and promotions on all other marketing channels of the club will be extended. Further, the logo of the crypto exchange will be displayed at the club’s home ground, Signal Iduna Park, which has a massive capacity of 81,365.

Furthermore, as per the extended terms, Coinbase will engage with supporters through hospitality sweepstakes set to launch in February, including the chance to win VIP tickets and other prizes.

“The industry is highly exciting, but still new. We, therefore, want to keep the flexibility open,” cites Carsten Cramer, BVB’s Managing Director.

It must be noted that the above partnership is effective until June this year, which may get extended depending on the future prospects of the cryptocurrency sector. Interestingly, how much the crypto exchange has shelled out to strike the deal is unknown.

What’s in it for Coinbase?

Borussia Dortmund is one of the top football clubs in Germany, as well as in Europe, and has won numerous domestic and international titles over the years.

The said partnership holds strategic importance for Coinbase as it would benefit from the club’s popularity and its mass fan following all over Europe. Also, the club has an extensive social media presence, and any promotions on the club’s physical or digital infrastructure will catch the eyeballs of hundreds of millions of football fans as these matches receive global telecasts, which eventually would benefit the crypto exchange.
