CMU Women’s Golf Hosts Season Opener Over Labor Day Weekend

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Ryan Williams will get his first look at his Central Michigan women’s golf team in competition over Labor Day weekend when the Chippewas open the season with the second annual A-Ga-Ming Invitational at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort in Northern Michigan.

Williams, who was named to head the program in late July, unveiled the Chippewas’ five-tournament fall schedule today, Tuesday.

The A-Ga-Ming Invitational is the first of two home fall events for CMU. The other is the final tournament of the fall, the Chippewa Invitational on Oct. 17-18 at Birmingham Country Club just outside Detroit.

The Chippewas are also slated to play in the Nittany Lion Invitational in University Park, Pa.; the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational in Ypsilanti; and the Rocket Classic Invitational in Port Clinton, Ohio.

The Chippewas, who returned their entire lineup, won both the A-Ga-Ming Invitational and the Rocket Classic and finished second in the 11-team Shirley Spork last fall.

“I’m excited about the schedule and the opportunities that we have,” Williams said. “We’re going back to a couple of places where we’ve won and it’s nice to go to places where you’ve had success, where you have good feelings and good memories.

“You don’t want to add that pressure of trying to repeat; I think the fall is really about setting the tone, getting better, learning, growing as a team and really just finding our rhythm. The fall schedule gives us as much development time as we need against some good competition.”
