Clippers, Thunder fined $25,000 by NBA for violating injury rules

Aaccording to the Associated Press, the NBA has fined the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers about $25,000 for violating a rule for injured athletes in the league.

NBA executives discovered that the Clippers listed guard Brandon Boston Jr. and wing Moussa Diabate as unavailable last weekend, but both played Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Los Angeles lost 112-91, however, Brandon Boston Jr. scored six points, while Diabate was held scoreless in the four minutes he was on the court. The Oklahoma City Thunder, meanwhile, broke the rule by incorrectly rostering point guard Josh Giddey – whether he was questionable or injured is unknown – in what the league called a “timely and accurate manner.”

Thus, the playmaker played in the win against the Orlando Magicwhere he recorded seven points and dished out 10 assists.

According to NBA regulations for the 2022-23 season, every team is required to share its injury report by 5 pm local time the day before the game in question. In the case of back-to-backs, franchises will disclose the status of their players by 1 pm on the day of the game.

The Phoenix Suns and Sixers have been there before.

Last season, the league finished the Suns $25,000 for the same thing when they didn’t report Devin Booker’s “participation status in an accurate and timely manner” before Game 6 of the Pelicans playoff series.

Booker had missed the previous three games in the first round series with a strained right hamstring. Booker was listed as out for Game 6 from the evening before to the morning of the game.

The 76ers were fined $50,000 ahead of Game 3 against the Heat in the Eastern Conference Semifinals after listing Joel Embiid as “out” the morning of the playoff game that Philadelphia ended up winning.
