Clemson DE Myles Murphy to enter 2023 NFL Draft

  • by

Clemson defensive end Myles Murphy is missing the Orange Bowl and will declare for the 2023 NFL draft, he told ESPN on Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know:

  • The Athletic‘s Dane Brugler ranks Murphy as the No. 4 prospects in the 2023 draft. He’s the highest-ranked Clemson player.
  • Murphy had 37 total tackles and seven sacks in 2021. He was a second-team All-ACC selection.
  • He followed that up with 40 total tackles, including 22 solo tackles, 6.5 sacks and a forced fumble in 2022 at Clemson.

Backstory

Murphy, a Marietta, Ga. native, entered college at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds. He was able to bench 275 pounds as a 14-year-old high school freshman. He was 247Sports’ No. 3 player in the nation for 2020 and the top player in Georgia. He was part of a top-ranked 2020 recruiting class for the Tigers.

Scouting report

For similar reasons to why Travon Walker went No. 1 last year, Murphy is going to be a high draft pick in April. At 6-5 and 275 pounds, he bounces out of his stance with long arms and outstanding speed for his size. There are several future NFL starters on that Clemson defensive line, yet it is Murphy, along with Jeremiah Trotter Jr., who leads the team in sacks. — Brugler
