‘Chemistry is half the battle,’ says Celtics’ Jayson Tatum; is he dropping a hint about a proposed Jaylen Brown-Kevin Durant swap?

It is not uncommon for NBA front office executives in today’s NBA to seek out the most talent they can get their hands on via trades and free agency, figuring out the fit between the players later. And you would think a team so near still the Kyrie Irving experience as the Boston Celtics might be a bit warier of such an approach, yet that team finds itself in the news for rumors the Celtics may be interested in swapping Boston star wing Jaylen Brown for veteran superstar Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets.

Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum has found himself asked directly and indirectly about such a deal, and has been cautious of late with his words. But asked by a reporter at his annual pro camp how hard it was to find and keep the kind of chemistry that helped Boston get within two wins of an NBA title, Tatum did not mince words.

“Chemistry is half the battle. You can have a great team with great talent, and not necessarily jell well together,” suggested the Duke product via NBC Sports Boston. “The guys … we figured it out in January, and never looked back.”

It can be hard to read between the lines in such situations, but at least from where we sit, it doesn’t sound like the Celtics star is looking to mess with what’s been working so well for Boston.
