Despite occasional rumbles that might be assumed to hint to the contrary without a closer reading, there appears to be no traction regarding the Boston Celtics (or any team in the NBA) supposed interest in trading for Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant. Boston is rumored to have offered a package focused on star wing Jaylen Brown earlier in the offseason that has since been pushed back on as ever being seriously on the table, a position reiterated on Sunday in a new article by the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach.
“League sources have insisted for weeks that the Celtics have not had any real discussions of substance with the Nets about Durant, and they’ve communicated with Brown about the situation frequently,” writes the Globe reporter.
There had been concern the Georgia native might be put off by the framing of the two team’s interactions concerning Durant, but for his part, Brown has shown little publicly to suggest that might be the case save for a cryptic tweet soon after the rumors broke.
For now, the team seems focused on finishing up the final touches on the roster they’ve added to since a deep 2022 NBA Finals run, with any “final tweaks” likely to be made in early September, per Himmelsbach, assuming Brodric Thomas and Denzel Valentine is extended camp invitations.
That would bring the team to within 2 of the 20 total camp spots allowed, so another player or two could still be in the mix for the Celtics’ 2022 training camp roster.
