The Baltimore Ravens have been known for their shift to an extremely run-heavy offense over the past few years. They’ve racked up plenty of regular season wins using the style, but have yet to find consistent playoff success.
There’s no shortage of running back talent on the Baltimore Ravens roster, and when listing off five possible landing spots for the a recently-released running back Kenyan Drake, Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports named Baltimore as one of the ideal destinations. When explaining why, DeArdo mentioned how Drake would be even more insurance for a running back room that was hit hard for injuries in 2021, plus be a receiving option out of the backfield.
“Baltimore already boasts a crowded backfield that includes JK Dobbins, Gus Edwards, Mike Davis and Justice Hill. But with Dobbins, Edwards and Hill all coming back from season-ending injuries, the addition of adding Drake to the roster certainly makes sense. Drake would give the Ravens another option in the backfield while being added insurance in the event that there are any setbacks to Baltimore’s top backs. Drake’s versatility would also give Lamar Jackson another weapon out of the backfield on short pass routes.”
Drake was a third-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in the 2016 draft. He’s also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and most recently the Las Vegas Raiders, and in seven NFL seasons has totaled 758 carries for 3,384 yards and 29 touchdowns on the ground as well as 199 passes for 1,535 yards and seven touchdowns through the air.
It’s certainly possible that Baltimore could take a look at the veteran, but they also seem invested in the running backs they have as insurance options behind JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards. Mike Davis, Tyler Badie and Justice Hill have been working with the team all offseason, and while Drake certainly has plenty left in the tank, it could take another injury for the Ravens to potentially move off one of their current depth pieces.
