Cardinals had trade talks with Seahawks, Raiders before draft-day deal with Lions

During the 2024 NFL draft, the Arizona Cardinals were active in making trades. They made two deals in the first round, first moving down from the No. 3 overall pick to the 12th pick in the draft, making a deal with the Houston Texans.

However, their draft target was offensive lineman Paris Johnson and he wasn’t going to last until the 12th pick, so the Cardinals actively tried to move up.

Before they landed on a deal to move up to the sixth overall pick and trading with the Detroit Lions, they had talks with multiple teams, as shown on the latest episode of “Cardinals Flight Plan.”

General manager Monti Ossenfort tried to move up to the fifth overall pick, owned by the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle wanted to use the pick, so then the Cardinals proceeded by having talks with the Lions and Las Vegas Raiders.

It appears they had an offer from the Raiders they were considering but ultimately decided to take the offer from the Lions, sending them the 12th, 34th and 168th pick for No. 6 overall.

Ossenofort also considered talking with the Atlanta Falcons, who had the eighth overall pick as well, although he was not shown talking with their GM.

When the deal was done, head coach Jonathan Gannon was in awe of how it all went down.
